UEFN Game Jams: Turning Gaming into Career Pathways

This makes it far less intimidating for students than starting from scratch in Unreal Engine’s blank canvas. The UEFN Game Jam Experience

➡️ Our UEFN Game Jams run for about 48 hours, beginning on a Friday with an orientation and training session. Students are introduced to UEFN and build their first game together, usually aligned with the weekend’s theme. For example, an obstacle course challenge might be used to teach animation skills like moving platforms, establishing checkpoints, and setting up timing mechanics.

➡️ On Saturday, students dive into their own projects. Unlike traditional game jams, which can leave participants isolated and unsupported, UEFN Game Jams are highly mentored. Cleverlike’s experienced instructors act like producers, helping students refine their ideas, set realistic goals, and stay on track. Periodic group lessons introduce advanced mechanics when the students have a little experience and are ready for a challenge.

➡️ By the end, every participant has a playable game. Students test and vote on each other’s projects, and schools often invite guest judges to evaluate based on criteria such as technical execution, creativity, alignment with the theme, and visual appeal. Winners are announced, prizes and certificates are awarded, and most importantly, every student leaves with a sense of success and achievement.

While students may arrive because they love Fortnite, these lessons extend far beyond gaming. UEFN skills transfer to Unreal Engine, a platform used across industries including film, architecture, automotive, fashion, training simulations, and marketing.
