This three-part series moves from awareness to application, guiding participants through hands-on challenges in network defense, digital authentication, and secure data management.
The Cyber Fundamentals Pathway provides a comprehensive introduction to the core principles of cybersecurity. This three-part series is designed to take learners with no prior experience on a journey from understanding the basics of network security to mastering concepts of digital authentication and secure data management. Participants will start by defending a school network from a malware attack, move on to implementing multi-level authentication against cyber threats, and conclude by learning about their digital footprint and how to protect data in the cloud. This series builds the essential foundation for anyone looking to become a safe and responsible digital citizen.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Network Essentials: Articulate the components of a local-area network (LAN), differentiate between a LAN and a wide-area network (WAN), and explain how information travels through a network in packets.
Cybersecurity Practices: Create complex passwords, describe layered security practices like two-factor authentication and network firewalls, and explain the importance of encryption for confidentiality.
Threat Identification and Mitigation: Define malware and identify common types, explain how individuals can avoid malware, and understand the concept of an incident response team and its various roles.
Data Management and Digital Citizenship: Explain the concept of a digital footprint, describe the 3-2-1 data storage method for backing up data, articulate the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), and explain the risks and benefits of IoT devices.
